Earth Day Challenge
Starting in the summer of 2008, The Mobile Learning Institute Earth Day Challenge was an international video making competition designed to give young people the chance to share their views on the earth’s future and everyone’s role in combating dangerous climate change. By learning more about the local and global forces that are shaping our environment today, young people naturally turn from reflection to action on these issues of importance to all of us. The Mobile Learning Institute Earth Day Challenge seeks to elevate these youth voices through digital film to public benefit.
Open to elementary school, middle school, and high school students everywhere, the Earth Day Challenge provided a platform for this generation to discover the power of their opinions on current issues, articulate their concerns in video, and share their ideas with others around the world. This summer, special Mobile Learning Institute (MLI) Earth Day Challenge camps across the country helped students create these videos – which were public service announcements, documentaries, and other genres – with the guidance of teachers and curriculum from the Pearson Foundation.
The first public service announcements submitted to the MLI Earth Day Challenge were made by young people from around the world at Jane Goodall’s Global Youth Summit and can be viewed now at www.twango.com/mli.
